Why help Shalom?

Shalom School

Turn on your TV,
listen to the radio,
read the newspapers.......

You will be moved by the plight of so many desperate people and situations where there is terrible suffering, all pleading for your help.

But you can’t help everyone who is in need or change all the dark and hurting places in the world. So you have to make choices and focus on a few projects and situations.

But why choose to help the people of Teso by contributing to Shalom?

Here are a few important reasons to help you decide:

  • Teso is no longer one of the major crises in the world, although it has gone through years of being one of the most dangerous places. In the late 1980s, when someone said that “It seems that when you cry in Teso, you cry alone”, the population fell from one million to half a million - but the world never knew.
  • The poverty and challenges facing the people are not in the news now. Therefore few people know or care about the long, hard struggle they are having to re-build their lives, with little or no outside help. The world’s focus is always on the immediate crises and the big agencies in the world, which of course need help. But what about the forgotten people and the small charities?
  • You are one of the few people in the world who now knows about Teso. Everyone has heard about the major crises and many respond to them through the big charities. But only those who have heard about Teso can help Teso. Shalom therefore has to rely on you to help change Teso.
  • Can we do something to prevent major crises in the future? Or will there always be disasters in the world? Yes, we can do something to prevent conflict, sickness, poverty and even many natural disasters. This is why it is so important to invest in Shalom School, as it has the potential to transform one of the most marginalised and disadvantaged parts of the world through relevant education, outreach programmes and creative initiatives, the effects of which will spread even beyond Teso.
  • Your contribution, however small, will not be a drop lost in the ocean of need, but a seed which will grow into a beautiful environment. Shalom is a relatively small and achievable project which your contribution will make a significant difference to, enabling far-reaching impact for generations to come. We can keep in touch with you so that you can see your donation grow and develop, bring transformation and make a real difference.
