Biblical Inspiration

Shalom School

Two stories from the life of Jesus continue to give us inspiration - the feeding of the 5000 and Peter walking on water (Matthew ch.14 v.13 through to ch.15 v.39).

In the first story, the disciples were daunted and paralysed when they looked out over the multitude of people in the wilderness, far from anywhere - it was impossible to feed them all. But Jesus looked in front of him and focused on what had already been given – just five loaves and two small fish. Although they were totally inadequate, he gave thanks and the miracle happened - we don't know how, but that doesn't matter.

The story which immediately follows the feeding of the 5000 is that of Peter walking towards Jesus on the water. As soon as Peter took his eyes off Jesus and looked around at the storm, he panicked and began to sink. Jesus took his hand and said, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?"

So we give thanks for all that we have been given so far and ask that we will not doubt or panic or be overwhelmed by such an ambitious project which is seemingly impossible to achieve, but remain faithful to the vision, work with God and trust that what he has begun, he will complete if we will work with him.
